The IEEE student branch is planning a field trip to Silicon Valley in May 2009 before the graduation ceremony. Tours to companies such as Intel, IBM, Apple, HP, Cisco, Google in Silicon Valley, as well as Microsoft and Boeing in Washington state will be organized for the tour. Tours to Stanford University and UC Berkeley research labs will also be organized.

DECEMBER 02

The Survey was closed on Nov 29th since it was limited to 100 responses.

We will advertise the tour in January.  The cost will be $500 for IEEE members, and $600 for non-IEEE members.

There will be a graduate studies info session on Thursday Nov 20th, 2pm to 4pm in Kaiser 2020/30.  All undergraduate students are invited to attend this info session.  Last year students found the info session very useful and informative.  So attending this seminar is highly recommended.

Information on application procedures will be presented by ECE student services staff.  Also faculty members from all research groups listed below will present their group’s research and projects.

Here are the details of the trip.

• UPDATE 2: The Greyhound tickets have been purchased. You will either get them on the morning of the 18th when we leave, or you can pick them up when/if you bump into Zanyar in the IEEE office.
• UPDATE: Date: Dec 18th, 19th (Two nights) - IEEE SB will cover the 2 nights of your stay up to $74. If anyone wants to stay longer it’s fine, but you have to pay for the extra night(s)
• Location: Best western Hotel, 4 people per room
• Pay before Nov 14th, to Zanyar
• Let us know before Nov 14th is you’re bringing friends. They should pay you (their friend in IEEE) first and you can they pay all together to Zanyar.
• COST: $40 for transportation + # of lift passesx$65 + nightsx$52 per night
• IEEE will pay for $20 of the transportation and also accommodation up to $74 (only for executives)
• This leave $20 of the transportation cost and 2x$65 of the lift passes = $150.
• If lift tickets were included for what you paid then you will be refunded.

Some questions that a few had:

• How far is the hotel from the grayhound terminal? :Only a few minutes walk!
• Can we have 2 ppl per room? :yes, but add $37 to the cost and let us know by commenting here so we can keep track of how many rooms we should reseve.
• Any kitchens in the hotel rooms? :Sorry, no kitches, but the rooms do have small fridges.
• Check your own name, and see if the details are correct/have to be changed and updated. If so, add a comment.
